Socioeconomic conditions for the management of agroforestry homegardens in Bonito, Pará, Brazil

The agroforestry homegardens is the form of land use systems characterized by its high efficiency because present multiple strata formed by species with different habits, resembling the structure of tropical forests. Taking as Amazonian agroecosystems scenarios, this paper aimed to identify and analyse the socioeconomic factors related to maintenance of homegardens in Bonito, Pará. Semi-structured interviews and direct observation were conducted in 24 homegardens of four rural communities. Descriptive statistics and multivariate data analysis were performed. It was found that the factor society land, composed by age, education, family income of farmer and lot size, combined with of reproducibility order and of the purpose of homegardens, influenced the maintenance of these land use systems, in evaluated rural communities.
