Abstract

Floristic characterization was performed on a stretch of dense rainforest in Uacari Sustainable Development Reserve, on the banks of river Juruá Carauari, Amazonas State, Brazil, in an area of 275 hectares, crossed by three transects (822 m, 1,265 m and 2,349 m), totaling 4,436 m. Plots of 20 m x 25 m were installed, interspersed along these transects, with distance between plots of 50 m, a total of 66 sampling units, equivalent to 3,3 ha of the sampled area. All individual trees with a circumference at 1.30 m above the ground (CBH) ? 25 cm were identified and measured. There were 3,050 individuals distributed in 133 species, 93 genera and 48 families. The index of Shannon-Weaner diversity ranged from 2.17 to 3.28 nats ind.-1 between the plots, while the result of the total area sampled was 3.75 nats ind.-1, concluding that vegetation studied has high diversity and is in good condition.
