Patchouli is well known for his use of essential oil in cosmetic industry and in medicine, so this study was to evaluate the effect of different substrates on the rooting of patchouli. The choice of substrate is the determining factor for the success of rooting and accordingly, were used as substrates only: Plantmax HT®, vermiculite and coconut fiber, and mixture of substrates: Plantmax HT® + vermiculite (1:1), Plantmax HT® + coconut fiber (1:1), vermiculite + coconut fiber (1:1) and Plantmax HT® + vermiculite + coconut fiber (1:1:1) to evaluate the survival of cuttings, the number of roots per cutting, the dry mass of shoots, total root length, root volume and diameter of roots by cutting. The substrates Plantmax HT® provided larger number of roots per cutting (37), higher volume (1170.8 cm) and radicial length (3.2 cm3). Based on the results it may be concluded that patchouli is an easy kind of rooting and survival, Plantmax HT? as indicated, for developing best seedlings.
