The present work was carried out aiming to evaluate of genotypes bean plant with the purpose of selecting materials with tolerance to drought. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse in the campus of the Center of Agrarian Sciences of the Federal University of Espírito Santo(CCA/UFES), Alegre – ES. Due to the great number of genotypes the experiment was accomplished in two stages, using a completely randomized design with subdivided plots. Soil moisture content during the period of water deficit was measured at every two days interval, by the DWEBO (Direct Water Evaporation in Bath of Oil) method. In terms of productivity it was not possible to find significant differences among the treatments with and without water stress, for the genotypes IN 2, IN 9, IN 12, IN 14, IN 16, IN 17, IN 18, EL-22, IAPAR 81, Red and Earring of Gold, showing that these genotypes are tolerant to water deficiency, however with low productivity. For the number of flowers, which influences smaller number of shell and, consequently, lower productivity, the genotypes Caeté Pé Curto, Iconha, Vagem Riscada and Macuquinho, were susceptible to water deficit. For the other genotypes there were no significant differences among the treatments, showing that the behavior of these genotypes was similar in the presence or absence of water deficiency.
