Abstract

The aim of the present study was to adjust a volumetric model to estimate, simultaneously, the volume of the stem and the total volume of trees for an Open Ombrophylous Forest, located at Codó Municipality, Maranhão State (BR). Three hundred and sixty-four sample trees ranging from a 5.0 to 90.0 cm were measured. It was adjusted the Schumacher & Hall mathematic model, including a binary variable to estimate the total trunk volume with and without hollows, and the total and commercial volumes of Cenostigma macrophyllum Tul. Results showed that the equations originated from the adjustment may be used, with precision, to quantify the total and commercial volumes in the Open Ombrophylous Forest studied.
