Essential oil of rosemary in the control of the diseases of the vine cultivar Cabernet Sauvignon

Abstract

Fungal diseases are one of the main problems of economic interest in viticulture due to the great losses recorded this sense. The purpose of this work was to test the essential oil of Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), without control of anthracnose and of the downy mildew of the vine. The concentrations of 0, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 ?L L-1 of essential oil were used for the following experiments: mycelial growth and sporulation of Elsinoe ampelina, germination of sporangium Plasmopara viticola and the evaluation of the severity of anthracnose and downy mildew from the field. It was observed that a concentration of 4000 ?L L-1 of essential oil, reduced 21% the mycelial growth of E. ampelina, none of the treatments has presented statistic difference for sporulation of this pathogen. For a germination of P. viticola there was not difference between the treatments. Under field conditions, it was found that a concentration of 4000 ?L L-1 provided a reduction of about 91% of the Area Under the Disease Progress Curve (AUDPC) of anthracnose of the vine. However, for mildew, no statistical difference was reported. Thus, a concentration of 4000 ?L L-1 of essential oil of rosemary was efficient with direct control over E. ampelina, as wel in vitro as in the field, showing great potential with integrated management of diseases.
