Abstract

One of the priorities of the seed companies is to reduce the time to decide on the fate of lots and some vigor tests can meet these goals, with quick and accurate results. Given the above, this study aimed to identify the vigor tests that best predict the establishment of soybean seedlings in the field. Four seed lots of cultivar 6458 RSF Ipro with four replications, deployed in a laboratory in a completely randomized design and in the field in a randomized block design were evaluated. The variables analyzed were [CO2], index of vigor - SVIS®, first germination count (FGC), seedling emergence in the field (SEF), emergence speed index (ESI) and tetrazolium. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and the averages grouped to the 5% level of probability by the Scott - Knott test. The vigor quantified by image analysis SVIS® has greater ability to predict the establishment of soybean seeds in the field and the changes in respiratory rate and deterioration damage modulate the speed and uniformity of seedling growth.
