Bioactivity of essential oils on Zabrotes subfasciatus Boh. (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in common beans stored

The present study aimed to evaluate the toxicity by fumigation, the repellent effect, the effect on the oviposition and emergence of the F1 generation of essential oils of Croton heliotropiifolius Kunth., Croton pulegiodorus Baill., Myracrodruon urundeuva Allemão and Ocimum basilicum L. on Zabrotes subfasciatus, in five doses (0.0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 ?L L-1 of air). Track fumigation the essential oils of O. basilicum and C. pulegiodorus caused 100% mortality of adults of Z. subfasciatus, at all doses except the witness. The oils of O. basilicum, C. pulegiodorus and M. urundeuva were repellents in all doses, while C. heliotropiifolius doses 20 e 5 ?L were classified as neutral and other repellents. In this sense, the oils of O. basilicum and C. pulegiodorus resulted in the highest values of reduction of eggs and 100% reduction in adults emerged, featuring ovicidal effect/larvicide about Z. subfasciatus during storage. It is therefore considered that the oils of O. basilicum and C. pulegiodorus are promising in the control of populations of Z. subfasciatus, being required further studies to define the best dose to be used, as well as the best way of application.
