Abstract

The present work aimed to follow up the phenological cycle of Capparis flexuosa L., aiming the feasibility for the collection of seeds and the production of seedlings of this native forage plant. The experiment consisted in studying 30 adult individuals during three years. Measurements were taken at 7, 15 or 21 days of interval, depending on the intensity of the phenological development. The plants were numbered and collected regarding two parameters: phenological phases and biometry. In the first parameter the number of flowers, floral buttons, green fruits, mature fruits (open and closed) and the index of foliar intensity were determined. For biometry parameter the height of the plants, stem diameter (basal diameter and diameter at height of the chest) and diameter of the aerial part were measured. The ideal time for collection of seeds of this specie is the period from March to April, when the fruits have its natural dehiscence. The most intense phenological development occurs in the first semester, period of plants reproductive activity. At the same period approximately 97% of the plants shows synchronous phenological phases.
